Falls Creek & Melbourne 08

A lot has happened this year, Barbados, Bali, Hong Kong, falling pregnant, appendicitis (which went a bit south resulting in a week in hospital). We are also planning to build a house later this year, and then there's both our 40th birthdays to consider as well as getting married on Friday, so, with that in mind My brother Andrew organized another "Family holiday" to the ski fields.

Falls Creek in fact. We made our own way to Melbourne, Donna and I staying in heart of Melbourne at the Rendezvous in Flinders St. Apart from the excitable Kiwi youngsters in the adjoining room screaming as their All Blacks got thumped by the Wallabies, and "ANDREA" and "SALLY" having a few differences to shriek about after the game, everything was very nice. The next day I was up and off to the bus station with Donna staying in Melbourne with her sister. After being contained (and remarkably well behaved) for 5 or so hours, there was a stir amongst my nieces and nephew as the first signs of snow began to filter through the trees. Being from Barbados, cold is a foreign experience for the kids let alone snow! They were beside themselves with their faces pressed hard against the glass their imaginations penetrating to this fascinating world outside the bus, a world they had only seen in picture books and movies. Falls creek was covered in snow, the kids ran amok with snowballs and ski lessons, they were really into it.

Even Max who is pictured somewhere here in the blizzard on day one of his ski lesson.
We stayed at the Falls Creek Hotel which is perfectly situated on the mountain. It snowed almost everyday and we had some fantastic blue skies as well. On Thursday my good friend Eddie

drove down from Sydney and although I had caught the dry cough that everyone on the mountain seemed to have, we had a great couple of days snowboarding like cats on acid.

Another reason for being in Melbourne was to have our "Post Wedding Dinner" That was our intention but with my appendix and other stuff getting in the way, our wedding had been delayed, so we decide the families should have a get together regardless with a prenuptial sumptuous meal at Cafe Di Stasio. Sandy and Gino took great care of us, everything was first rate, the service, the food, the wine, and of course company. I can thoroughly recommend this place for a terrific dining experience.
